Do you feel like the phrase 'green' is overused?
Do not get me wrong, I am all for an eco-friendly earth. And When I am older, I plan to live in such a way. (earthship or tumbleweed house, solar panels, sustenance farming, etc) But what bugs me is the trend the energy crisis in America has created. I am in high school, and I despise people who parade around in 'Go Green' shirts. Spreading the word of recycling is good and nice, but buying a twenty dollar tee shirt that says 'green' on the tag is doing nothing for the earth. The only way I can really describe my frustration is like this; The vegetarians I know, who I see frequently eating meat respond to my questioning with dumb excuses like "oh, I picked the pepperonis off'(to which I reply "That doesn't matter. The animal grease they were cooked with has tainted your pizza, and the cheese is made with boiled cow stomachs.") Then, they usually tell me something like "so? It's not really meat" making it clear they are doing it just for the title. That's how I feel about most of the 'go green'ers, its all about the credit and title you get for doing it. Does anyone else feel simalar?

Can I go along with contractors as they work to learn?
I want to learn about everything that has to do with houses. Solar panels, wind power, electric, carpentry, driveway, foundations repair, and so forth. Do you think if I call up some companies and contractors that do these various things that they would let me follow along and learn if I assisted for free? If you answer do you know this objectively or by experience or solidly for sure? Or if not yes or no what do you think are the odds? What would be their mentality on the issue? I also have been thinking about working at Home Depot or Lowes. Do you think that my desire to learn would help me get a position and I already know some? Also do you think it would be a good place to learn? and why? I don't really want to go to school I want to be somewhat self taught. And I don't want to work for a company long term I am seeking independent entrepreneurship. I can watch video but I would like to be in person hands on and asking question directly. I mean I heard of physicians letting people tag along for a day or something so I thought maybe a contractor would let me tag along and assist especially if I did it for free.

What's the big problem with green living?
So I'm wondering why there is such a stigma hanging around the concept of "green living" mostly in reference to older generations who don't like the whole "green" movement. In many situations natural materials prove to be more efficient and CHEAPER! For example, energy saving light bulbs, using hay insulation in houses, solar panels.. I just want some intellectual discussion... are most people too set in their ways or is it the cost scare?
