Going Green with Profits

Henry Ford once said, "A business that makes nothing but money is a poor kind of business." Little did he know that the company he founded almost a century ago almost went down because it was not ready to heed today's cost: conserve energy, save the environment. The buzz words these days among cause-oriented groups are "climate change", "save the environment", and "go green". From businesses to traveling, everyone wants to go green and share something towards the conservation of the environment. Even employees, without much prodding from their bosses, would gladly donate to environmental causes and some would even take out a payday loan to give to their favorite eco-conservation organizations.

Today, making a profit is just one side of the coin because many big and small companies are becoming eco-friendly and they want to help the planet survive. With this in mind, there are plenty of green business ideas that go around and one or two could be easily applied, whether one is in the producing business or in the consuming lifestyle. The first one is going to green business consultants. These experts have solid experience in building businesses that adhere to environmental standards and regulations. They also have the technical know-how in sustainability of these efforts. New businesses in particular need the support and guidance in making business and financial plans and marketing strategies that incorporate environmentally friendly practices and systems. For big businesses, they need these environmental business experts to improve the energy efficiency of their building and factories and use renewable energy.

Speaking of green buildings and factories, remodeling work is going green, too. Homeowners are now more environmentally conscious and more informed in choosing the materials for their homes. These people also want to increase their homes energy efficiency, but still retaining its attractiveness in terms of design. They even get online payday loans in order to buy appliances or equipment that have good energy star ratings as a way of contributing to energy conservation and an investment to good health. Those who are into green house remodeling could work with experienced green architects and build a network of subcontractors who work with green materials.

Another business opportunity that could go green and would work well for the owners and the customers is ecotourism travel. More and more people, especially the young and adventurous-type, want to try green tourism for a change-not just the usual, run-of-the-mill tour packages. Ecotourism is becoming a multimillion industry which increased the popularity of adventure sports, wilderness survival trips, nature travel, and even eco-volunteering. All in all, going green today works beyond saving the planet, but also making money in a good way.

democratic national committee?
DRAFTING AL GORE ??? In the past Al Gore as a candidate has frustrated me. I thought that he paid too much attention to pollsters and conflicting advisors, and failed to heed his own convictions. He knew that the environment is the most important long-term concern that this nation faces (pollution, global warming, energy resources, topsoil erosion, etc.), but he was afraid that the American people would not listen, or that he would be tarred as an out-of-touch policy wonk. Now things have changed. The nation seems to be spontaneously greening. The big oil companies tout their green energy programs; evangelical Christians are going green; architects win prizes for their green building designs; large companies spontaneously are capping carbon emissions; environmental organizations are finding new clout (witness their influence in the recent $45 billion buyout of the energy giant TXU in Texas); people are buying hybrid cars; trying to reduce waste, recycle, and compost. We have a long way to go as a nation, but it is becoming obvious that the people (the electorate) are way ahead of the politicians. A critical mass may be coalescing. A sea change in public thinking may be on the horizon. Major cultural changes don?t happen until the time is ripe. That is why I believe that it may be time to draft Al Gore for the Democratic 2008 Presidential race. I don?t believe he will aggressively seek the nomination and confront Hillary. But his recent Oscar for ?An Inconvenient Truth? has undoubtedly stoked the old fires of political ambition. Gore is smart and articulate, deeply comprehends foreign and domestic policy issues, and will be a shrewder campaigner than before. And he does have a dry sense of humor. Hillary remains a polarizing figure. Obama is young and inexperienced. Gore is unquestionably the best-qualified individual on the scene today to lead our country out of the current morass. What sane person would today want the daunting job of U.S. President? Gore is indeed sane, and if he can be persuaded to run, our country will be very fortunate. Let?s try to see that he is drafted. Please join me in discussing him with progressive influential friends, forwarding this e-mail, or whatever you can do to get the ball rolling. We owe it to our country ? to our children and grandchildren, -- and to our planet, which is our only home. Neal Chandler, March 2007

Why did renowned green architect Ken Yeang say this?
Ken Yeang, a renowned green architect who designs green skyscrapers and wrote many books on them said that "the skyscraper building type is probably the most ecologically unfriendly of all building types, but until an economically viable alternative is identified, it is necessary to make them as humane and as sustainable as possible." Why does he think they are the most ecologically unfriendly? What are your thoughts? (Look up the book "Eco Skyscrapers" on Amazon.com and scroll down to the Product Description)

Sophomore Unsure About College/Picking Up Grades?
I would say my grades are good...but I want to bring them up, seeing as I am just a white male(unless I could get away with saying Asian-I am Russian :D) and I do not play any sports although I do have a club, although I am going to expand to two more. I have 90's in my science class...90's in history..90's in English...90's in Spanish......100 in Intro to Engineering...High 80's in Math... If I am achieving those grades, is that really good enough if I do very well on my SAT/ACT, could I possibly get into a prestigious school? And any tips to get my grades up...I think it would help to study, but I am just terrible at studying and I just can't get myself to do it.... Another thing I am unsure about is really what I want to do for my profession, for a year or so now I have decided on becoming a Green Architect-or at least some profession dealing with architecture...of course still green. But it sounds like unless I am a world famous architect I wouldn't even be upper middle class. Honestly, all I want from life is the weekends off for some time to do whatever and live in a nice apartment with a big tv and sit back and watch some football with an expensive car sitting...wherever. But I don't know if even if it is in the green industry I could get that. Would I be better off being a lawyer? Or a bond broker? Aerospace Engineer? Well thanks for the long read...even for me it feels like a boring essay reading it back but I didn't know how else to get my point across...and I donno if it helps but I am pretty much in all advanced classes...
