Top 5 Green Energy Companies From 2008

Thousands of organizations and businesses are going the extra mile and spending the extra dollar to buy utility-scale energy from renewable resources. So much so that the United States E.P.A. (Environmental Protection Agency) compiles a quarterly list of the top green power companies from their Green Power Partnership program which came out in July 2008.

Some businesses take diminutive steps towards a green campaign, but these companies are proving their allegiance to a greener environment by voluntarily spending millions of dollars on clean energy.

  1. Intel purchased 1.3 billion kilowatt hours of electricity in January 2008. This compensates for 47 percent of the companies overall energy use.

  2. PepsiCo purchased 1.1 billion kilowatt hours of electricity in 2007, the equivalent of powering 90, 000 homes for an entire year. This accounts for 100 percent of their annual energy use. PepsiCo was named Green Power Partner of the Year in 2007 by the E.P.A.

  3. U.S. Air Force has already purchasd 9 million kilowatt hours of electricity this year as of July 2008. They have invested in a number of biogas, biomass, geothermal, solar and wind energy providers.

  4. Wells Fargo has purchased 5.5 million kilowatt hours of electricity from wind energy providers thus far in 2008. They are also a Green Power Partner of the Year in 2007. More than green energy, Wells Fargo has made a number of other commitments to their green campaign including LEED certifying their buildings and offering online account statements.

  5. Whole Foods Market, the past two years has purchased enough green energy to compensate for 100 percent of their energy use, totalling to over 5 million kilowatt hours annually. The company is also investing in multiple other efforts to reduce their carbon footprint on the environment.

Other organizations ranking high on the E.P.A.'s list are Starbucks, Johnson & Johnson and the University of Pennsylvania.

Has Everyone Abandon Energy Conservation?
I was just wondering has everyone forgot the beating that opec put on the world by abandoning energy conservation. In january crude oil was at $35 per barrel and here we are over 5months later and oil is heading towards $70.OPEC says it is due to ''increasing demand''which is utterly ridiculous because we are in a global economic cash crisis and people are losing their jobs like crazy, vehicles getting repossessed,gm on the verge of bankruptcy, carpooling, etc. So that has to mean that the world has forgotten the $147.50 beating that opec put on everyone and abandon energy conservation because from $35 to nearly $70 in less than 6 months.I estimate at this rate crude will be back to $147.50 per barrel by or before sept 2010,unless the world gets serious about continually doing ''going green energy conservation methods. Also why has everyone abandon the energy saving light bulbs.I paid $4 a piece for my bulbs and they save me over $70 per month on my electricity compared to the soft white bulbs, plus they last for up to 2years(I already had mines for 9months now and they are still going strong). So why has every abandon these methods?,because it shows through the price of crude oil.

HONESTLY! Is this a good essay? TELL ME THE MISTAKES! OR WHAT I SHOULD CHANGE easy 10 points!?
Ethanol, Global Warming, N1H1 You wouldn?t think that the subjects Ethanol, Global Warming, and N1H1 connect by our school themes, but they do! These are very different topics which you may think they would not connect. But they have small details that are in common, and it makes a big difference! Ethanol, Global Warming, and N1H1 are all connected by Power, Migration and Energy. Each subject connects to their themes in their own way, staying in our triangle of our school themes. Ethanol will be connecting to Power, Migration and Energy. So will Global Warming and Swine Flu. Swine Flu started from swine in Mexico. Global Warming is all over the world. It is happening everywhere and it needs to be stopped, and our earth needs to go green. Energy-efficient cars have come from all over the world also, but mostly coming from the U.S., and migrating all over the world. They are all connected together by power. N1H1 has started from the pigs in Mexico; gradually spreading around the world from person to person said Suzanne Bohan, from the Contra Costa Times. President Felipe Calderon is using his power to try and stop the spreading of swine flu. In Mexico he is trying to separate the ones with swine flu, and the ones without it. Obama is using his power to take Global Warming off of his list of concerns. Yes, there are many things that are very important in our world, but Global Warming should still be a concern to our own country. The car companies are using their power to make energy-efficient cars, ones that run on ethanol, not gas. This was said in the article Study: Cars go farther on electricity than ethanol. This relates to the book we read in Language Arts, Great Expectations. This is because Estella took over Pip, just because she had the power to do so. This is just like President Felipe; he is using his power, but for good. These subjects connect to migration because swine flu has migrated all the way from Mexico, to the U.S. In Oahu there have been flood reports. Since they are close of the ocean many researchers believe that it is because of Global Warming. The water level in rising and it will keep rising unless we go green. These people in Oahu had to migrate because they would not live in flooded areas. This affects Hawaii because In April, the state saw 1.3 percent fewer visitors than in the same month the previous year. Daily expenditures per visitor were down 14 percent from $186 per day to $160 per day. The idea of Energy- efficient cars has migrated all over the world, but mostly in the places of U.S., Japan, and Europe. China's has become the capital of solar and wind power manufacturing, and it aims to be the main source of affordable electric cars. Energy connects to my articles for many reasons. USA Today has mentioned that an energy resource, gas, has prices that are lower now because of swine flu. It also relates to energy because over spring break, some US colleges urged their students to avoid Mexico as a vacation destination, said at csmonitor.com. Then the swine flu, which had its center in Mexico, caused bookings to drop by 95 percent in April and May. This saves a lot of energy, because airplanes take up a lot of gas and oil. Because of energy resources, such as gas, it has polluted the earth, said Eric Draper. The physicist Freeman Dyson has noticed that there has been increased attention in the last couple of years for his doubtful thinking about global warming, in a New York Review of Books essay, a New York Times Magazine cover story, and this week an interview with Yale e360. Energy-efficient cars are just what we need for our earth. They save our limited energy resourses, and use the other sources that are renewable. Ever thought how Ethanol, Global Warming, and N1H1 connect to each other, by themes such as Migration, Power and Energy? Well they do in their own way. ?Some of the scientists, I believe, haven?t they been changing their opinion a little bit on global warming? There?s a lot of differing opinions and before we react I think it?s best to have the full accounting, full understanding of what?s taking place.? George Bush said in a presidential debate, on October 11, 2000. Richard Lugar quoted, ?By furthering the use of ethanol, farmers are presented with the opportunity to produce a cash crop by collecting their agricultural wastes.? As said before, these subjects connect in our triangle of school themes! (this was done by a 7th grader)
